Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / New MythTV - DVI video question?

The latest update is, I got it working. Sorta. I ordered a new DVI cable and it hooked up just fine. I got output, but the LCD tv I have is a little weird. I think it was something like 1175X720. Some wacko screen size. Since this TV is a loaner, Im not going to worry too much about it and just keep trying things and not invest until I get my old TV back. (Yeah, right)

The other problem is my MythTV overheated in the tv cabinet a week ago. Seems the myth + cable box in that cabinet is a little warm…. might not work on this until temps cool down and my house is more at 68 and not 88.

Topic: SCOSUG Announcements / Annual Barbecue - version 2008

Ok, the deal is done!!

The picnic is Sunday, August 17 @ Chatfield Hollow. 12 – 5, plan on the grill being ready by 1. http://ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325182&...

SCOSUG is supplying all the basic supplies (burgers/dogs/rolls/soda and paper goods) thanks to the funds we’ve raised over the last 2 years but haven’t done anything with. Please RSVP!! Just so we make sure we have enough supplies! If you are coming, bring a side dish or beverage or something, but its not critical. You will have to bring any specialty items (ie: vegi, vegan) but again, we’ll have the grill going and other stuff.

Chatfield has swimming, so I will try to get somewhere near the lake, I’ll try to post signs too so you know you are in the right place (pengins with arrows?) I’m not sure what we can do at the park, but there will be SOME kind of display so you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Hope to see you all there!! (I will send out an email too, and this time I ‘ll remove the bad addresses!!)

Topic: SCOSUG Support / Mouse Trouble

Does it do the same thing with an external mouse plugged in and the internal option disabled? I had weird issues with my trackpad and finally just disabled it going for external mouse. Works great now but that might not be an optimal solution for you. If you test it though you might be able to rule out hardware vs configuration anyway?

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / New MythTV - DVI video question?

I dug around and found a video card with DVI out. Then trying to find a cable was another adventure as no one stocks these things. I had to order a cable from Amazon. I tried it last night and it worked. Fuzzy but it worked. Time to start checking connections and figure out why it didnt look so great. I think my card has had some abuse in its day… I’m just glad I found something that works, I was afraid of spending the cash only to find out some OTHER obsticle. So now I don’t mind buying a good card/cable as I know this’ll do what I want.

Then, back to the fun of MythTV!

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / Intechra - Meeting topic?

There was an article in the Advocate about an IT recycle place in Windsor CT. They tried to refurb/resell hardware and what can’t is recycled with green practices and not just overseas dumping. Anyone else think this might make a good presentation? Not exactly open source related but we all have lots of hardware to dispose of!

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / New MythTV - DVI video question?

So on my ‘loaner’ tv I have a DVI-HDTV plug. The two VGA to DVI adaptors look ALMOST the same, but not quite. The difference is that next to the horizontal spade lug, there are two veritcal spade lugs. After that follows the 3 rows of tiny pins. I checked and there are no contacts in the two vertical spade lug plugs, they are just empty sockets. It looks sort of like the DVI-DualLink.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is there any way I can get my PC hooked up to this thing or am I SOL? I’d rather not have to purchase a new video card but I will if Im sure it’ll solve the problem, at the moment looking at the pages I can find on DVI plugs, Im not so sure it will!

Thanks…

For anyone that wants to read it, my review of the IronKey is on my livejournal. I’d like to have done a better one, but seeing as how this is my first product review, and I managed to break it at the end, I think it came out decently. :-)

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / April Meeting?

I think we have to cancel the meeting, or at least the formal meeting part. We are working on good topics for May June and July so watch for those announcements! I know Gary is in Hawaii so I don’t know if we’ll have ISG access this time either. We could just meet for dinner and gabbing if anyone is up for that.
