Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / May Meeting - waiting for confirmation

Considering meetings are “generally” the third Sunday of the month, this will not be a problem.

I will post a sticky as soon as we get confirmation.

Topic: SCOSUG Announcements / March Meeting

Just a reminder:

SCOSUG March Meeting

Meeting Topic: Meet & Greet

Where: Innovation Software Group, Wallingford, CT

When: March 30th, 2008 @ 6:00 pm

This is a meet and greet meeting, so long-time members can share with each other what we’ve each been doing, as well as hopefully getting to know some new members.

If you’re into Free/Open Source Software, or are just interested in learning more about “what’s this Linux stuff everyone’s been talking about”, we hope to see you at ISG on the 30th.

Munchies & beverages are welcome. We are planning on hanging out for about an hour or so and reconvening at a local diner. Location & directions will be given at the meeting!

It didn’t dawn on me until this past weekend that the 23rd IS Easter. Definitely not the best day for a meeting. The 30th sounds fine to me. :-)

I’m good for most weekday evenings. Sundays are usually good, except for the 9th and 16th of this month.

Since it’s been a while since we’ve had a meeting, I think it’d be good to meet at ISGs new facility for a meet-n-greet. Whether we have munchies/drinks there or out is entirely up to the folks at ISG. :-)

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / SCOSUG Picnic/BBQ THIS Saturday!!!

Don’t forget! SCOSUG’s annual picnic is this Saturday, August 25 at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden from 1:00 pm until whenever.

If you’re planning on bringing something, here’s a list of what we have and what we still need:

Have – Burgers, hot dogs, buns, beverages, two cold salads (one bean, one TBD), gazpacho, baked beans, cake, paper plates, paper bowls, eating utensils

Need – Napkins, condiments, chips & dips

If you plan on bringing something PLEASE POST IT HERE by close of business on Friday so we know what we’re missing. Also… REMEMBER to bring any serving utensils your contribution may need (if any).

Thanks & see you on Saturday!!

If you’re coming to the picnic and plan on bringing something, PLEASE post in the Discussion section so we don’t wind up with 20 bags of chips and no entrees. ;-) See you all on Saturday!

Topic: Help Wanted / New career time

Hey all. As you know, I’ve FINALLY completed my Bachelor’s in Info Systems. Now, I’m looking for a new career (i.e. NOT secretary).

If anyone knows of an entry level position in an IT department, let me know where to send my resume and cover letter. I’m looking for help desk (call center), hardware, or even web design. So long as it’s entry level and pays at least $18/hour or $35K/year.

Also, if you have any advice or pointers, or if you’d like to help me tweak my resume, I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement while I pursued my degree! And thanks in advance for any advice or leads you can send my way!

Many thanks! Cathy

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / Picnic - What to bring?

Thanks, Nick, for getting this started!

I’ve got a new recipe for a really good cold bean salad I’ll whip up for the occasion. I’ll bring hot dogs & buns as well.

I’d like to suggest that if anyone has food allergies, PLEASE post them in this thread and be sure to bring any necessary substitute. For instance, if you’ve got a wheat allergy and need to use special bread or should know if there are wheat products in what you’re eating.

Topic: SCOSUG Discussion / Meeting format

For what it’s worth, a “presentation” should be whatever the speaker feels is necessary, so long as it doesn’t go beyond 60 minutes. For anyone who feels they need less than 15 minutes, I think a “discussion” would be better suited. In other words, the person could just remain seated, stand or goto the front of the room if (s)he so chose while giving her/his talk. Make it a conversation.

The only night during the week that’s no good for me is Tuesday. I have school until 10:20. Any other night is fine. I’m leaving the timing up to you guys since I know how crazy things can be for all of you. I’m gonna pull a total “guy” move on this one and say Just tell me when & where to show up. ;-) C

Next “regular” meeting would be next Wednesday, January 17th. Perhaps something “fancier” than a diner? I’m not as familiar with the area around ISG’s/DSL.net’s new digs as some of you are, so I’m leaving that up to those who know the area better.

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Your help is needed in planning the annual SCOSUG Festivus. The venue has been tentatively chosen, but before any arrangements are made, we need to decide on days we’d like to choose from to have the party & approximately how many people are planning to DEFINITELY be there.

This topic will close at 5:00 pm Eastern on Saturday, December 8th.
