I’m new to Linux although I’ve been using Open Office 2.0 and love it. I’m looking for advice…opinion….the best distro for the novice Linux user to use for education? I’ve been considering using Fedora.

Fedora is a good one, I would suggest either that or Ubuntu. Each has a little different twist on how things should work, but both are easy to use and learn from. And either (or try both!) would give you a feel for how the two major camps (apt vs rpm) have decided that updates should work :-)

There are a bunch of Fedora users here as well as RedHat Enterprise users so give it a try.

Those are good suggestions, but PCLinuxOS, Mandriva, or OpenSUSE are some other good alternatives you can check out.

I find that when I install Mandriva on peoples machines that are used to Windows the learning curve is small. Try a live CD from different distros to see what you like best.

Has anyone tried Linux Mint?
