I got the mythtv working again last night. This is a reload, new hardware so I said screw it and reloaded everything rather then just move the drive. Ubuntu Fiesty and the mythtv packages from the multiverse.

At least its sorta working. I get channels 2-13. Nothing else. I remember having this problem before, it was something about selecting the right type of cable, or running the tv scanner with the right options. I have comcast digital but that didn’t prevent me from getting 2-99 before…

Anyone know what the right settings are? was it cable-hsc or us-cable? And is there anything else I need to click?

Looks like version 0.20.2 just released.

plagiarized:
  1. The major impetus for this release is the shutdown of TMS Labs; among other changes this adds Schedules Direct support. # The 0.20.2 release notes have a list of the two major and many minor changes since 0.20.1. Since 0.20.1 never made it to a public release you may want to look at the 0.20.1 release notes as well.

I noticed the last time I went through the config that there wasnt an option for Schedules Direct. I am glad to see the option has been added.

My big debate is on if I want to pay for it. If i have to pay, I might as well pay TiVO since I really only use the DVR functionality. I’ve played with all of it (web interface, music features, blah blah) but I dont use it. And Josh was telling me about TiVO stuff you can do I never noticed. I have simple DVR needs, I just need to find a way to make my simple needs work with my cheap needs.

Remember though..

Tivo spies on you. And you really can not beat the automatic commercial skipping. Tivo doesnt have this, only manual 30 second jump – which I wouldnt doubt that in future releases (that you get updated whether you like it or not) there will be functionality that forces you to watch the commercials.

Anyone tried SageTV? The only reason I ask about it, is that it has a very cool little remote unit for use in other rooms (say the bedroom) without me having to build another PC and install the MythTV front end software.

All this is on hold until I get moved anyway, but I’m still watching my options. Once I move I’ll get something built and working.

More mythtv fun; my house is sold and Im moving. My TiVO S2 froze over the weekend and the drives are squeeling so I don’t know if it will survive the move. The first order of business after moving might be to finish the mythtv.

Has anyone used one of these? http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Silicondus…

I point to that and to a posting on a friends blog http://www.cafaro.net/2007/08/28/mythtv-in-hd-n…

As I would like to be able to record the digital channels above 99 on Comcast. Unfortunately my TV tech is pretty limited so I always confuse the HD and the digital and what four letter acronym is used for what. I have no HD tv or anything so thats not a big loss and I’d rather get to record higher channels then watch in HD.

I hear the HDHomeRun device is fantastic.
