Someone has a dump of the old mailling list, or the old database of users from the 2nd gen site. I think we should do a mass mailing, a sort of “we are back and here is the info”. What say you all?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Ok, so who has what data? Rumors are that Steve has the original mailman list, and Gary has an extract of the Postgres data from the forums?

An email announcement would be nice. I happend to find out about the new forums because I was cleaning out old email, and realized I haven’t seen squat from SCOSUG.
Also, the old forum software could send an email copy of postings. Is that still possible? I’d like to keep up with what’s going on, but I can’t always make it here to check; as I’m sure is the case with others…

I’m working on getting a forums-to-email component up and running. In the interim, the forums currently supports monitoring via RSS feeds. You can bookmark the little orange icon displayed on various pages of the site to subscribe to the RSS feed.

I have 4800+ CFUG emails and 2300 old SCOSUG ones if anyone is interested ;)

I THINK cfug.org is still valid. But Im not going to email all those addresses ;-) Considering the bounce rate I got just from the original SCOSUG mailman lists, I can only imagine how wacked out addresses from the mid 90’s would be.
I would like the email gateway but maybe the RSS will keep me satisified. The question is how do I use it? I can make it appear in my menu on Firefox right??

Different browsers handle the RSS feed differently. In Firefox, you should be able to click on the little orange RSS icon on the page you want to monitor (I recommend the one on the main forums listing page, or subscribing to individual feeds on each forum). You should get an option to “Subscribe Using Live Bookmarks” (or something like that), which puts the feeds under an icon in your toolbar, or wherever you chose to put them.
I’m trying to find some time to devote to getting the forums <=> email thing going.
