Annual Barbecue - version 2008

Hi all. It’s time to start planning our annual summer barbecue. Details need to be hammered out, so we’d like your input on the following items in the next couple of weeks:

1) Where to have it? We’ve had it at Sleeping Giant in past years. One year we had it at Wharton Brook. This year, someone suggested we have it at Chatfield Hollow since they have a kid-friendly swimming area. SUGGESTIONS??

2) What day to have it? Since meetings are generally on the third weekend, the suggestion is to have it on either Saturday 8/16 or Sunday 8/17 with the following weekend as the rain date. PREFERENCE??

3) What time do we start/end? Should we start at Noon? 1:00? 2:00? Should we keep it to a time frame? 3 hours? 4 hours? 5 hours? THOUGHTS??

4) Should we rent a picnic shelter? Cost to rent a shelter is $150, not including any parking fees at the park. Having a shelter guarantees the space and grills as well as a place to sit out of the sun. COMMENTS??

Once we’ve got these details ironed out, we’ll get to the topic of food & beverages.

All constructive comments and suggestions are welcome.

SCOSUG is supplying all the basic supplies (burgers/dogs/rolls/soda and paper goods) thanks to the funds we’ve raised over the last 2 years but haven’t done anything with. Please RSVP!! Just so we make sure we have enough supplies! If you are coming, bring a side dish or beverage or something, but its not critical. You will have to bring any specialty items (ie: vegi, vegan) but again, we’ll have the grill going and other stuff.

Chatfield has swimming, so I will try to get somewhere near the lake, I’ll try to post signs too so you know you are in the right place (pengins with arrows?) I’m not sure what we can do at the park, but there will be SOME kind of display so you’ll know you’re in the right place.
